Before starting our 6-day hike up to K2 basecamp, we first stopped in the small village of Askole, where we met the porters that were to accompany us on our journey.
During the hiking seasons, these Pakistani farmers earn their livings by providing their services as porters for trekking and climbing expeditions. The venue of mountain enthusiasts in their region gives them the opportunity to earn the extra money needed to support their families.
These men live with close to nothing and in very poor conditions, yet are some of the most generous and friendly people I’ve met throughout my many years of traveling around the world.
